Weekend Shenanigans

Happy Monday, Bloggers!
I've got a busy week ahead so let's get to it!

aug2425

1. Game 1 of 2 this weekend. Enjoying a beer on a sunny, Seattle evening.
2. Saturday was spent on Lake Union/Washington for my good friend's 27th birthday. So relaxing, and exactly what the doctor orders after a night of drinking. I'm telling you, if you don't have friends who own boats, find some. Now.
3. Sunday: game numero dos. Garlic fries and amazing seats with my dad. Garlic fries are amaze ballz. Luckily I don't have to be close to anyone anytime soon :-)
4. Catching the light rail down to the game. Kind of awkward face because my Dad just started snapping pics!

I finally gave in. Follow me on Twitter!

I now have a twitter account. For the longest time I fought the twitter thing, but now I'm kind of embracing it. Sad thing is: I have one follower (Thank you, Tara!). Please follow me along, and if you have some good (read: funny) tweets I'll follow you too!

Subscription Box Share [July]

It's that time again! The time of the month where we all share our goods recieved from our subscription boxes. This is definitely one of my favorite link ups in the blogging world because it is so fun to see what others subscribe to and receive. It also makes me feel like I need to get in on a new subscription box or get rid of my current one at the same time. However, this month's box didn't irk me the way last months did. I'm sure once I see the Ipsy box for the month, I might be singing a new tune. That box has piqued my interest lately.

Here's what I got:
(Descriptions taken from Birchbox.com)

Birchbox Bobby Pins-$5
Our colleagues in the UK refer to these tress essentials as kirbies or hair grips, while in the US it’s thought their name comes from the phrase bits and bobs. Whatever you call them, bobby pins are a must-have in every beauty arsenal—and there’s no reason you need to hide them. This exclusive set of six chicly patterned pins adds instant style to all your ‘dos—display them proudly.

Caldrea Body Lotion-$22
A good body lotion is hard to find. Too oily, too sticky, too thick—the list goes on and on. Lucky for us, Caldrea has been perfecting its body care line for a decade (yes, a decade!). This nourishing body lotion comes in three signature scents: Aloe Water Apricot, a modern white musk with floral notes; Tea Olive Lime, a green citrus scent with vanilla and orchid; and Coconut Fig Leaf, which is fresh and exotic with top notes of white fig, plum, and coconut.

Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Cream-$48
If you struggle with finicky skin, you’ve probably dreamed of a silver bullet that could solve all of your complexion problems at once. While that’s a bit of a stretch, Dr. Jart’s powerhouse cream is as close as any single product can come. Enhanced with a megadose of ceramides—the lipid molecules found lacking in severely dry skin—Dr. Jart Ceramidin Cream combats roughness, redness, and irritation and moisturizes for up to 26 hours. Pretty miraculous, huh?

I.C.O.N. India Oil-$40
Although we’d all love to roll out of bed with movie-star hair, the only film we’re likely to be cast in when we wake up is The Bride of Frankenstein. Rectify the situation with a few drops of this golden elixir to detangle and smooth wayward strands. The lightweight formula nourishes hair without weighing it down, resulting in naturally radiant tresses that are ready for the spotlight.

ModelCo Party Proof Lipstick-$19
One thing is for certain: Parties are for practicing your best electric slide or teaching fellow revelers how to Dougie—not worrying about smudged lipstick. Gladly, this hydrating, semi-matte lip color lives up to its cheeky moniker. Whether you’re heading to a backyard BBQ or a black tie gala, it’s guaranteed to stay put through plates of baby back ribs, champagne toasts, and beyond.

Overall, this box was alright. I'm glad they didn't send me any more pink gel pens or perfume samples. The full size lipstick was an awesome thing to receive, and the color looks good on me. Most of the other products were satisfying as well, but I can't see myself paying these prices for the products. I have loved receiving Dr. Jart+ products, and this cream didn't disappoint. I'd suggest not putting it on right after you get out of the shower, when it's the middle of summer and hot in your apartment. I felt sweaty in the face for quite a while. ew.

What was your favorite item from your subscription box this month?

Let's Talk Zucchini (Recipes!)

I was super mature 6 years ago..
Back when I was a recent high school graduate ( ok, really somewhere between the ages of 18-20) my lovely friend Kate brought me the most enormous Zucchinis from her father's garden. We tasked ourselves with using every bit of that zucchini before it went bad. I was so tired of this vegetable by the time we went through all the massive ones her dad passed along to us. We made about 10 loaves of bread, and enough fried zucchini to satisfy an elephant!

Kate and I with the newest batch o zuchs!
However...this was many years ago (at least 5!), and when word was surfacing that these things had been grown in a certain lady's dad's garden, I wanted to get my hands on them. Katie my lady knows me well, and delivered the goods promptly. I'm pretty sure this years harvest is wayy larger than the ones from years back, but I'll let you see the evidence and be the judge of that...

Zucchini that is as big as my cat!
So here I am, faced with the dilemma of what to do with all this zuc once again. It isn't a terrible problem to have, but it is a situation. The invention of Pinterest has been the best thing to happen since the last time I got these huge mama jammas! SO MANY RECIPES. So far I have made a healthy bread, and Zucchini yachts. Today we're going to talk about the Yachts!

Normally these bad boys would be called zucchini boats, but due to the situation of my large veggie, I thought it appropriate to rename them yachts (I don't want to down play their enormous-ness!). They are super easy to make and are pretty dang yummy too. Let's get to the recipe:

Zucchini Yachts (or boats for those of you that have to buy them at the store)

What you'll need:
Zucchini
1lb Ground Turkey
1 Onion
1-2 cloves Garlic
1TBS Italian Seasoning
Salt and Pepper
Optional:
Multi color peppers
Cheese

1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees
2. Cut your Zuchs lengthwise and scoop out the middle so you can put all the good stuff in the middle!
3. Spray them with olive oil and place them in a baking dish. Place them in the oven and bake until a fork easily goes in
4. Time to prep the insides.
5. Place ground turkey, chopped onions, garlic, and whatever other ingredients you want to add in. I used some red, yellow, and orange peppers that I needed to use up.
6. Season with Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
7. Cook meat until done
8. Once zucchini is almost all the way cooked, scoop turkey mix into zucchini, and sprinkle with cheese
9. Place back in oven and bake for 15-20 minutes
10. ENJOY!!

More recipes to follow. Feel free to post links to any zucchini recipes you know!

Happy weekend, y'all!

Nail Files

Holy moley, I am back on the nail files link up for the first time in a few months! In that time that I've been away I've had countless manicures (Ok, not really. Just 2x a month so you do the math!), and they have not been featured on the link up. All that is changing now. I'm including pics of my current manicure, and my awesome one that I meant to post for the fourth of July, and didn't. Womp womp on my late-ness.

I saw my hairdresser wearing a green color on her nails, and right then I wanted to do the same thing because it looked so pretty. Hers however was more of an evergreen. It was darker, and mine is lighter. I still was pleased. I think my nail lady didn't want to paint my nails this color at first because she made a comment about how it was a different color than what the bottle showed. When we were finished though she changed her story. She liked it, and so did I.

Yay! Fourth of July nails! I was really excited for this manicure because it is so festive.
